Red Hat 11-19-2008, 13:19 Most tents purchased at outfitters like REI are already sealed, including MSR tents, Big Agnes tents, etc. But if you get a Henry shires tarptent it needs to be sealed.... JERMM 11-19-2008, 13:22 The BA Seedhouse 1 tent is sealed at the factory Bare Bear 11-21-2008, 17:33 I always do it just because. It doesn't take long or cost much and if you do have a leak it will drive you nuts at 0300 drip drip drip. After being folded a lot and crinkled up, IMO the tape inevitably will not work 100%. I spend the time and money to seam seal the outside of any tent i have, at least the main overhead seam, regardless if it is taped. Then at least the seam thread will not absorb water, possibly leading to a leak if your tape is/has crapped out. Tales maybe 1/2 hour, $8. Good one time insurance for me. HYOH |
