Sorry to have missed the meeting, but I ordered the DVD and love it. It's worth getting. How did the meeting go?

I thought the annual MATC meeting went well. The highlight as usual were the slides of the trail, then and now, as the five overseers reported on work accomplished last year. Dain Trafton presented a worrisome report on the damage an industrial wind power complex would do to the nature of the trail from Saddleback through the Bigelows, and a spokeswoman from AMC reported on the preliminary meetings at which plans for the 37,000 acres AMC has purchased in the 100-mile-wilderness are being developed -- the same meetings that TJ suggests aren't happening, or are just a smokescreen for decisions already made.

She said 2004 will be devoted to studying the lands and other than a couple of new trails no development decisions are likely until December. Field studies will be conducted this summer.

I know the speaker's name as well as I know my own, but it escapes me at the moment. I will post it sometime. But I have to run now. I'm leading a Maine Chapter, AMC, hike on one of of our town land trust preserves and have to at the trail head in five minutes.

Yo ATTROLL

Thanks for the "recommendation" for "2000 Miles to Maine" DVD.
when you first posted it...i had bought another DVD & was sorely disappointed....but, this one is FUNNY, entertaining, & let's you meet some of the "Characters" (thru-hikers, section hikers & day hikers) on the trail during the making of the movie.....Thanks again.
The two producers of the movie did an "Excellent" job capturing the real sense of the trail (IMHO). :D

I'll have to get a copy of this. Speaking of videos, does anyone know where I can get a copy of Five Million Steps? I've wanted to see it for years, but never have.

Hi Pennsylvania Rose,

That video was produced by Lynne Whelden. He has a great website called LW gear. com ( sp? ). You might try there or hook to a link on his site. It is 75 mins. long and follows people along state by state. I really liked that video. He has some additional info on hiking at the end of the video.
It is also available through the Appalachian Trail Conference at Harpers Ferry... The ultimate AT store. You may see it on their website. Hope this helps.

Pennsylvania Rose:

The ATC website: www.appalachiantrail.org (http://www.appalachiantrail.org) still carries this Lynn Whelden video for $25.45 for members (a couple more greenbacks for non-ATC members).

It's a good video worth the money. (according to reviews)

I looked on the ATC website a couple of weeks ago and couldn't find it, which is why I asked. I'll check back there and try Lynne Whelden's site, too. Thanks.
