Here is a link to a story I wrote for today's paper (http://www.pennlive.com/news/patriotnews/index.ssf?/base/news/1228093813166250.xml&coll=1) on efforts to implement Pennsylvania's new revisions to the Appalachian Trail Act. (The RSS feed above did not pick it up)

Basically, those revisions require municipalities to enact zoning to protect the trail from negative impacts of nearby development. Folks at the ATC say it is the strongest protection law in any of the state's the trail runs through and that other states will watch closely to see if it works.

And i hope it works, there's way too much development near the trail ... which is one of the top reasons i keep telling the wife we need to move ... I love hiking but around here its just that hiking ... with car sounds, dogs barking ... trucks from highways zooming around all hours of the night ... i doubt ya hear that stuff 5000 feet up in georgia's mountain tops ... "granted in pa we don't get above 2000 feet all of what, once. But still, its bad.

Thanks for the story! (The WB spider also got it, maybe one of those admin types should merge the threads.)
