Fun area. Is Gold Camp Rd. closed up in the same area as back in the 90's?
The web site makes it sound like it is shut at the base of the hill now.

You can hike part of the road but it's my understanding that they did not reopen the tunnel after the cave-in.
The web site makes it sound like it is gated down in suburbia. When I was there (Clinton's 1st) you could drive several miles past the base of the hill in suburbia, past a bunch of trailheads, to a final parking area/trailhead. There was a barricade and dirt berm/ditch.
Some wingding managed to take a hard right on a straight flat stretch coming down, wondered if that may have led to it. It is a pretty view from that spot, but you do need to pay attention driving.
Lots of motorcycle/goat trails up in there. Was poking around up there once and unhappy guys with guns appeared. Big guns. Probably had been on camera scratching myself and got to close to something. Fun times.
