There is no snow on the trail in NJ as of 12/10. They are talking about some snow over the next few days, but it doesn't sound like much, maybe an inch or two. I've seen a lot of cars along the road the last few days. It may be deer hunting season this week if thats of any concern to you.
thanks! I was thinking the weekend of 12/20. I'll check the hunting season situation.

It has been 60 degrees and raining for the past two days in NJ. Absolutely no snow right now.
Lets just say we had more snow in October than we did in December

You will need to get up to the New England mountains at elevation before snow is of any concern. There is snow in the Mountains of NH and VT and ME. Here in the lowlands of southern NH there is no snow. So there certainly isn't any in the lowlands of NJ.

I can't speak for this year, but I went hiking on the AT in NJ last year around this time and the trail was a solid sheet of ice for miles. I didn't have any snow shoes on and the ridgewalking was incredibly hairy in places. I slipped dozens of times. I also ended up getting caught in a little snowstorm that put out about 2-3 inches of snow in a very short period of time. I ended up bailing.

That was a solid sheet of ice. Scared the hell out of me. It was kind of neat to not see a single person on the AT for 2 full days, though.
