The link below is to a Google KMZ file with AT parking areas.
When downloaded and opened using Google Earth, the file shows 230 of the most common parking areas along the AT. Each lot is identified by a "P" pointer, and is labeled with the mileage from Springer to that parking area. Click on the pointer to a particular parking area, and you will see:
- A short description of the lot (usually a road name and a gap name).
- The distance from the parking area to the nearest shelter both north and south.
- The distances to Springer and Katahdin.
- Links for “to” and ”from” driving directions.
Mileages have been computed using the current 2009 mileage provided by the ATC.
The info has been extracted from the guidebook Appalachian Pages. The text of App Pages 2009 includes the coordinates of all these parking areas, so that hikers can enter the coords into their vehicle's GPS and have it navigate them to the trailhead.
