Anyone know what the trail is like in new york? I'm thinking about going out there in a few days, but I'm curious about the temperature and snow conditions (if any).

And where would I get this information, since I don't think I can look this up with a zip code or anything...

Thanks.

I hope to be out on the trail in NY next month. Conditions change from day to day so I'll just have to see what nature hands me.
Have a great hike.

I did 11 miles on Friday from South Highland Rd to Long Hill Rd in Putnam County. The snow was crunchy and the footing was fine, no spikes or special footwear required. As others said, conditions will vary. With rain predicted, then freezing afterwards, I suspect the trail will be quite slick over the next few days.

I was out for a day hike on 12/27 in the Harriman, Ny area.. The temps. were in the low 40s and there was some snow and ice so foot traction devices were needed on the downhills.. Today the temps are in the high 50s and the snow is melting fast.. Get out there and enjoy it before the crowds come in..

I was out in Harriman today and the snow was patchy and slushy, never more than about 3-4 inches. There was a lot of water everywhere.

i don't know about the condition of the AT itself. however, i can say that a lot of trails around the general area (hudson highlands) were pretty affected by the recent ice storm with a lot of downed trees. i would imagine most of the snow is gone by now.
