So my wife's brother is going to be joining me on a 2 week section hike this spring and somehow I am in the position of gearing him up.

Here's what I am looking for:

1. Internal Frame Pack - Around 3000+/- for tall skinny guy (6'2", 150lbs).

2. 30 degree sleeping bag long (down or synthetic)

3. Sleeping pad (ridge rest or therma rest)

4. 2 person tent under 5lbs or so.

I'm not trying to cheap out on anything but this isn't my gear so price is the most important factor for me. I will do his basic four, he can handle the rest. PM is best way to reach me. Thanks!

If you don't get what you want, why not check out what you can rent??:-? The sizing might be better and sometimes they can give you a bigger discount for that length of time. Also check college campuses. Sometimes they have adventure type outtings gear to rent for cheap too.
Good luck!

I was going to suggest the rental route, too. In Charlotte, REI and Great Outdoor Provision Co. offer gear rental.

I originally threw this idea out to him but he wanted to do a couple of shakedowns prior to our trip and being that it is my for my brother in law my wife has a lot of opinions on the subject. The renting idea was my first thought though.

I've got an old Therm-a-Rest Ridgerest you can have.
