Unbelievable. I also checked out the web cams. They are frozen over with crystals. Check out http://www.mountwashington.org/weather/cam/deck/ . The wind is steady at 125 mph right now at 16 below zero.
Glad I stayed home. I was going to try climbing last night to Hermit Lakes, then summit today, but the wind is way too much. The east side of the mountain (Tuckerman and Lion's Head) must be in a whiteout now.
Winter mountain hiking is always a challenge. At my age I look for better weather conditions.
Wonder if any of those hearty new england hikers were up there at midnight poppin champagne bottles
good call staying home tinker! :D

Yes, those guys are different breed. They're going out to look for different thrill. I still remember a few incidents occurred on the high peaks last year in Whites. I beat the weather, bagged Mt. Washington. On day after we left the area, two experienced and well equipped folks from Boston got stuck on Franconia Range in a whiteout. They lost the direction and made wrong judgment. One older guy succumbed to hypothermia. The other younger guy was near death when he was found by a rescue team.
The weather is brutal over there when winter is at its full swing.
Blissful

I was in NH on New Year's Eve while my guys went skiing in Bretton Woods. It was COLD. I was wondering how cold it was on Mt Washington.
