Hey, I'm Michelle...18 years old, Living in South Central PA, taking a year off between high school and college to thru hike the AT NoBo. I just recently commited to my decission so I'm scrambling to get everything ready to go by April 1st at the latest. Although I have been active in venturing and worked at a Boy Scout camp for the past 3 years, I'm relativly new to extended hiking, never doing more than a weekend hike. My parents are supportive of the fact that I'm an adult now and can make my own choices, but they really want me to find another person to hike with...and personally, I would really like a partner for atleast the first part of the hike, I'm big on mutual support systems! Hiking the AT isn't so much my dream as it is....a calling. I feel like I have to make it through to keep on living. So if there are any other women out there that are going to be starting around the same time as me and would like some companionship and support, PLEASE pm me asap, it would mean alot.

Hey Michelle.
I'd like to head out sooner than you and will likely be working in "chunks"... which is to say- I'll go for at least a third of the trial, then until I either run out of money or have to go to my sister's wedding (and I should probably make the shower, since I'm the maid of honor). I'm thirty, have a decent pace, try to save $$ wherever I can and I don't snore.
I also seek a hiking partner. There's a group starting March 10th. Do you think you can scramble to get you stuff together by then?

In case you don't find a partner before you leave, know that on any given night in April, you'll be sharing a shelter with ten or more fellow hikers - guaranteed. A lot of hiking partnerships are born that way. Good luck with your journey!

My names Kathleen, I’m 22 and I thru hiked “solo” last year. I know it is really really scary to start by yourself, but you’ll meet a lot of amazing people and find some hiking buddies pretty quickly. I was never really alone out there, and in the end I was glad that I had started solo. My parents were also very concerned, but they got use to the idea once I was out for a little while. Before the AT I had only been on weekend trips as well (a LOT of thru hikers start that way), but there are also a lot of experienced hikers on the trail who teach you the ropes. I hope your trip planning goes well. If you have any questions or anything shoot me a message. Plenty of people helped me out when I was planning, and I’d be glad to do the same.

Hi Michelle,
My name is Lindsay and I am 23. I feel the exact same as you. I would love to do the trail but I am nervous to begin on my own. I would like to go as soon as possible without rushing:). I am considering bring my dog, unless it proves to be a problem. Let me know if you are interested in hooking up.
Hey!
I am also taking a year off from school and am going to hike the trail, but do not want to do it alone. I have a group put together, but do not have anyone who is really committed to staying with me after the first month. I am thinking of starting a little after March 15th. It would be so great if we could team up! i have done a ton of hiking, but really want a hiking female hiking buddy! I hope that this can work!
