Just got a Brasslite Turbo II-D Backpacking Stove, problem now is how to use it.
Started out with an once or so (used yellow plastic heat) in it...used pre-warmer and windshield with damper almost closed:
first attempt: high bright flames...out of fuel in less than a minute and a half;
second attempt tried less fuel....once burning...added pot same results as before.
:-? Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong and how to do it right?
Thanks!
Is the flame supposed to only come out the top (not happening) or the top and the vents on the sides (what is happening)?

I haven't used heet in mine, but instead have bought denatured in the cans from the hardware store. I don't put the damper on except to simmer, but instead start out with the holes fully open. I haven't done trials with mine in a while, but I think one ounce should burn something around 8 minutes? That definitely seems wrong.
Don't take this the wrong way but are you sure it was an ounce of fuel? I had been using a medicine dropper and the first time last spring that I used the stove (switching from the winter white gas here) I forgot it took 5 dropper fulls to make my dinner and instead kept using one. I remembered on the third try:datz.
dot not over prime leave holes wide open let flame get hi befor pot is put on then lower it down slow a cold pot sometime will kill flame a 1/2 oz fuel should do the the trick yellow heet works ok in all alcohol stoves. [do not get the red one bottle]

You need to have the damper wide open to start off with when the stove is cold. Sometimes after you preheat it the stove will go out. Then I just place a lit match down the "chimney" to light the alcohol in it.
Brasslite stove works great, it is one of my favorites.

I have the exact same stove. Just lit it with the vents wide open, 1 oz of yellow heat, 11 minute burn time. Did it again with 2 cups water (cold) just about a rolling boil in 11 minutes. No windscreen, tried it inside. 1.5 ozs outside with windscreen would most likely yield same result. I am ordering another one of these, can't beat it for the price!!

Solved the problem.
Turned out that I had used bottle to store white gas (for other stove), DUH!. Once I switched to alcohol all was well.
Thanks for suggestions!
P.S. Found out easy way to remove built-up smelly gas soot....used Methyl Ethyl Ketone (extreme fire/health hazard)...so wear gloves and do it outside.
