does anyone know the mileage from Fontana to southern boundary of Nanatahala? whare can i get a good map of the forest with shelter info trail, etc? thanks for teh help.

I suggest contacting the ATC (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/site/c.jkLXJ8MQKtH/b.786995/k.C95F/Guidebooks_and_Maps.htm) for maps and other information. You can also review the forums here on WB. How close do you live to a decent outfitter? You should be able to find a map guidebook unless it's a real small and limited store.
