Hello all:
I need a new pair of gloves for winter hiking--SC, NC and GA. I don't want fleece or bulky, just good warm hiking gloves. Recommendations?
Thanks so much.:sun

Buckle, I would go to an all gender forum to get a wider variety of ideas with that one. I once did that with a hat I wanted. Got lots of great ideas from some men as well.
I dont need those in Florida so I am of no use to you there.:sun

I used running gloves that were part polypro and part metalic....think Michael Jackson Gloves.

Ladies nylon or polypro gloves. You will think these are too thin, but in fact they are just right as wind hardly penetrates them. For rainy conditions, carry about 3 pair of the thin latex gloves similar to those used in clinics but slightly thicker. They weigh next to nothing and take up no room. Keep them in a small freezer bag. Buy them oversize so that they will fit easily over your hiking gloves. If they rip, just get another one. You can have extras sent in your resupply boxes.

Happy hiking. :sun

at target they have fleece gloves-ish, they are fingerless w/ a mitten that can cover your fingers, and even a little hole for the thumb, very easy to use your fingers w/o your whole hand getting too cold, nice and warm and $10

I got a pair of Mathewski fingerless hobo gloves. They are good for a second pair.

Outdoor Research (OR) Windstopper Gloves. I have small hands and they make a size that fits me with good dexterity. They not only stop the wind and cold but are water resistant and have a good grip. Expect to pay around $40/pair. Worth every dime.

Walmart has them, too. I have a pair in gray. I had to restitch the sewn mitten flap (because cheap gloves have cheap sewing) but have been using them for 2+ years and they are still the most useful gloves I own.

yeah my first pair from target had to be restitched, but then i lost them, the second pair seems to be holding up better but i've only had them for a few months

That is so subjective. I am weird about gloves because the skin on my finger tips begins to crack and split when the temp. get down to only 65 degrees. I wear thinsulate lined deershin gloves or mitts like TNF Montana mitts. I am sure those are far to heavy for what you want but there are some nuts like me who need more. Mind you, my hands don't get cold. The splits and cracks feel like paper cuts which take me days to get healed back up.

Good luck and let us knkow what you find.
