I'm trying to find a hiking skirt, and the styles that I want all seem to only come in khaki. I really want something darker-colored..I started the trail last time with light-colored shorts and they stained up pretty bad after a couple of months. Any suggestions? I really like the shorter wrap skirt style.

Patagonia makes the Duway and the Morning glory skirts, both great for hiking and are well made with good material. :)

www.ibex.com (http://www.ibex.com)

They have two skirts on sale in the women's outlet part of their site. I have the Lena skirt and there is also the Pizzi skirt. Only one pocket on the Lena skirt so my daughter is sowing on three pockets of the same material.

I am a big fan of the Skirt Sports skirts. They are designed with runners, cyclists and triathletes in mind, but Man do I love my skirt to hike in. I'll wear it with compression shorts in the summer, and in the winter I'll wear it over my long underwear bottoms (the way that guys wear nylon running shorts over their long underwear) It's also comfy and nice to take the compression shorts off in camp and get some breeze!!

I have the "Transition Girl" and love it, but they've got about 20 different styles. Some have panties or compression shorts built in, but the transition girl doesn't have anything built in, it's just a really breezy tech fabric that dries really quickly and wears very well. Good luck!

This skirt use to come in black and I feel that it might again come spring.

Regarless of color it is a fabulous skirt and is on SALE for 9 bucks. It is a shorter wrap skirt but not too short. If you sew on an additional 2-4 buttons you can make it smaller out on the trail as you begin to thin down. I LOVE this skirt and got it in a couple of Prints ( click on to another page and you will see it in PRINT) -- I did not get the black one and so hope it comes back as this skirt will be a staple in my pack.

If you must have black check back as the season changes.

Outdoor Research has a wrap skirt in darker colors (olive, navy.) It's nice enough, I had to buy it to replace my beloved MH Packwrap (black) that they no longer make. Why, MH, why???

Forgot about SportSkirts - they are awesome, and have great customer service. They sent me the wrong size once, and sent me another immediately - and did not want the one that was the wrong size sent back since they made the mistake - sweet! :)

Sue, that is a good price on those. Does that wrap around gape open?

The Outdoor Research Satori Skirt is a nice wrap that comes in several colors. It is on sale now at www.backcountry.com for $26.95, but only large is available in the slate. Otherwise, it is the beige... It is a bit longer than most of the other skirts mentioned except the macabi...

I found that most nylon doesn't take dye well, only natural fibers like cotton. Also, Rit dye runs, so you might have stained legs when you get caught in the rain.... not pretty...

the only problem there Seeker is that it can be very difficult to dye nylon and/or polyester fabric. I've never been able to do it successfully so that it looks good when it's done. I would never even consider trying it with outdoor designed clothing.

Good thought though!

ok... good points... i misread... khaki to me is a fabric, not a color... didn't realize we were talking about a synthetic... i was thinking the old cotton khaki matierial i wore in military school...

Not on me. I bought the XL but it is a bit big on me.

I second this. I have two pairs of these skorts (one black and one blue) and cannot imagine travel of any sort without them.

I'm a big fan of Title Nine (http://www.titlenine.com) . They carry a full range of woman's athletic apparel, including skirts, skorts, and great sports bras.
