Hi, I am looking for a lightweight (under 3.5 lbs) backpack. My son wants to start hiking and I need to replace my stuff that I sold off a year ago! Go figure!

I don't know the size, but we saw a cool pack with frame at Wal-Mart and were planning to get one for our son who has outgrown his current one. It was like $30. Of course there are some parts I plan to hack off to save some weight. Looked like a good deal for an kids pack to break them in with.

This pack is for me. I got a great deal at REI on a close-out for him. Me, I need to cut down on weight, I turn 50 this year!

How much weight you carrying and what do you consider large? I consider large about 4000ci+

How about new?

I just noticed this yesterday when I got my new Campmor catalog.
Not top of the line cutting edge, but light enough, and, to my knowledge, Jansport doesn't make junk.

I am 6' 2" so I need a large (long)pack. I had a ULA a few years ago but sold it. I will go to 4000ci max. I'm checking Ebay also for a good deal. Like to get a quaility pack as cheap as I can. I just got laid off in Dec.

My son's 6"5" and has a shorter torso than I do (5'10-1/2" and shrinking). My torso's between 20 and 21". I buy packs accordingly. Do you know what your actual torso measurement is?
I know about the layoff situation. I was laid off Dec 5, and my benefit year (from 2008 ran out Jan 15th). I can't get a hold of the unemployment dept. of my state. I've been trying for 2 weeks.
Good luck with your gear search. :)

I'll sell my original GoLite Speed (not current LiteSpeed), size Large for $55 shipped. It's yellow, used on 2 overnight trips. nothing wrong with it. I accept Paypal only. PM if interested - by the way, I can't check this site during work hours, so please don't think I'm ignoring you.

I had a Granite gear Ozone that I loved but sold it last year. I still hear crap from my wife about that! I just might save up and get another one. Getting a job would make it a hell of lot easier.

Granite Gear Vapor Trail always seems to be highly recommended. I've got the little brother, a Vapor Day, that is really comfortable the few times I've been able to use it lately on overnights.
