I picked up a pair of Oboz Hyalite hiking shoes at a VERY good price and figured I use them as work shoes. Today I had the idea to put them to the test before they get warn out from pounding concrete eight hours a day.
The test was a 5 mile hike with fairly steep accents and descents all with a range of 1" to 5" inches of snow coating the trail.
The weather was bright and sunny, high of 47* so the snow was very slushy.
Given these sloppy conditions I almost expected my feet to get a little wet. To my surprise these shoes, along with ultra wicking REI socks, kept my feet comfortably dry the whole duration of my hike.
The tread on these shoes is amazing, they very rarely slipped even on slippery logs and rocks.
I'm really impressed with these shoes, especially considering they were less than $30.00 on REI super clearance.
