I have a campmor 20 mummy bag that came in a cordura stuff sack. I am going to make a sil sack for the bag and was wondering if you thought the cordura bag would make a good bear bag. My thought it that its gonna be tossed around and in the trees and stuff and should prob be pretty sturdy and water proof. I had been using a ripstop bag. What do you guys and gals use and think?

CORDURA is the registered name of a high-performance Nylon66 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nylon) product manufactured by INVISTA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/INVISTA), It is used in a wide range of products from luggage and backpacks to boots, military apparel (such as tactical blade sheaths, ammunition pouches, etc.), and performance apparel.
It is designed to be long lasting and resistant to abrasions, tears and scuffs. Probably overkill for a food bag.

It is too heavy for a food bag, and it won't even slow up a bear much. You need an Ursack for that.

I used a silnylon rip-stop food bag on my thru. It was big enough for about 7 days of food. It was also long enough to tie in a knot at the top to close it. I used a yellow mason line (nylon), about 45 wraps around my hand, to hang it in a tree. I made a loop at the end of the string and would slide it around the knot in the food bag like a noose and tighten it. This makes it easy to remove the food bag, just loosen the noose. When the bag is hung in the tree, the fabric tension is increased, and acts like a roof keeping the rain or mist out.

No, just go to Walmart to the camping section, they have a little package with three roll top lightweight drybags ($10) made from a poly something that is slightly heavier than silnylon. These things are so waterproof you can use them to haul water with and the roll top keeps your food dry hanging in the rain and gives you something to attatch your bear line to. I still thread the little biner on the bear line through the webbing so the weight isn't hangin on that little plastic buckle.

I use the same bag as take-a-knee. the others were used for my gravity filter.

Yes, I made a gravity filter out of the large one also.

I made just a plain water bucket out of the large one and a small dry pack out of the part I cut off.
DooDahman has a thread on here showing his design for the water bucket.

Me three! (no filter mod, using a steripen--although it would work in a stuff sack as well) The big one makes a great water carrier once in camp.
