Everyone hates them. Threads are born about their worthlessness, yet I want one. So if anyone has one of the dreaded MSR hyperflows, that works, even if not perfectly, PM me. It is the last piece of gear I need for my spring section hike.

PM smellie cat (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/member.php?u=19842) . We met her briefly last year on our sobo (she flip flopped). She carried one the entire 2175 miles and seemed to have no problems. She said it took a short time to get used to but after that it is my understanding she loved it. Everyone else that we met went back to a MiniWorks (which we carried too). Its bomb proof if you are not infatuated with every once. I have been contemplating getting a HyperFlow even though the MiniWorks has never failed but why fix something thats not broke?

Because it weighs to much. I have a miniworks and a Katadyn Hiker Pro and the Verio. I'm a gram weenie who still likes to filter.

Why would anyone sell at a discount if they got it at REI you can take it back for a full refund. Good luck

believe it or not, there are other places to buy gear besides REI.

I had one and did not 'hate' it. I love the concept of it. BUT it didn't work after 3 times of use. If MSR could work out the problems with it, I would consider another one. Just not any time soon.

Lol I love people who think the onlyplace people buy gear is REI. Oh by the way this isn't a discussion about the Hyperflow, I just want to buy one.

I don't see many places discounting these thing (from the reviews it looks like they should be) so if you are paying MSRP then REI would be the logical place to buy one. If I am going to pay full price on anything and it is available from REI I am not going to go somewhere else and forgo the REI guarantee.

I’m the MSR Brand Manager and am posting to let you know that we have identified a flow performance issue with some of the hollow fiber filter cartridges contained in MSR HyperFlow microfilters currently on the market. The performance issue DOES NOT effect the product’s ability to filter safe drinking water but can be frustrating as the flow rate of the filter may not perform to product specifications. The issue has been rectified and all filter cartridges currently in production for the MSR HyperFlow microfilter perform to flow specifications.

It is our goal to provide you with the most innovative and reliable outdoor gear available when you need it most. You can be confident in the efficacy of the hollow fiber filter technology, but if you are experiencing a less-than-expected flow rate right out of the box or after back flushing, we want to know. Please contact our Customer Service Department at Cascade Designs, Inc. by calling 1.800.531.9531, and we will send you a valid replacement filter element at no charge for any unit purchased prior to September 15, 2008. Please have your filter element handy as we will ask for the serial number for our records.

Please also check www.msrgear.com (http://www.msrgear.com/) for improved MSR HyperFlow microfilter instructions and an instructional video on proper back flushing of the unit.

The things I didnt like about it are: (correct me if I'm wrong, going off package description and spects and what I have seen on the trail)

- does not remove taste.
- clogs quick
- weight is not all that lighter compared to Hiker pro if you strip the stupid weighted end and shorten the hoses on the hiker pro.
- In winter, if it freezes - its broke.
- hikers complained about the constant need to clean the filter.

I did like the speed of filtration but if it doesnt take the taste out - i'd rather carry the hiker pro (and an extra ounce) to have clean tasting water.

I have not owned one but was about to pay for one untill i read it doesnt do anything for taste.

MSR Rep, any plans to add charcoal to clean the taste?

Not tryn to bash you at MSR, I do like the size and it seems to be built stronger at stress points the the hiker pro (damn handles on those things snap every now and then but you can melt them back together and they are good as new).

Believe it or not, there are other filters out there with the same design as this that work much, much better and far more reliable. Wrongway i right- the taste thing is a bummer.

I called to get replacement cartridges for my Hyperflow today and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. They're replacing both the cartridge in the filter and the extra I bought. Nice to see a company standing behind their products. Apparently there were several lots of cartridges that weren't up to standards.,
