Check the use by or sell by dates. That sounds like surplus from the Nutri System weight loss people

Probate: that actually sounds more like an ad for Nutrisystems. We should have a conflict-of-interest disclosure.
Check the use by or sell by dates. That sounds like surplus from the Nutri System weight loss peoplewhen i was volunteering after katrina we had expired food around all the time. we ate it and we handed it out to the locals. dates are just the "guaranteed nutritional value". if it looks good and smells good there is no reason to throw out good food just because the box says it is bad.

Depending on a diet that may have degraded nutritional value.... when every calory and nutrient counts on a limited food bag and maximum physical activity is not a formula for success....
But hey... for weekend you may like it....
Let us know how it works if you decide to use it on a couple of months sustained basis.

The date on the stuff was good till may 2011 and it did taste really good lot better then oddles noddle that for sure and a lot less salt.
:-?
Depending on a diet that may have degraded nutritional value.... when every calory and nutrient counts on a limited food bag and maximum physical activity is not a formula for success....the law of conservation of energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only change state. the calories ain't magically disappearing once it hits that date. if it looks good and smells good then the bugs that got sealed in the package at the factory haven't started eating on it yet and converting the calories. you can watch for fire and your food making sounds as well to make sure your calories ain't changing states and getting away from you as well.
Mail dropping food has pretty much become a thing of the past. Most thru hikers just buy food as they go now days. Your tastes will change and you'll get tired of the same ol' same ol' so think it through whether you want to strap yourself to these meals for the entire hike. I used to love flavored oatmeal, but I got so sick of it in 30 days I was literally having to hold my nose and shovel it down to keep from ralphing it up!

This is Diet food, ya know the commercials w/ formerly porky celebs. It would fill ya up for weekend/sectioning but have less than optimal Calorie/weight ratios needed for thruing.
The instant eggs work well in making burritos, that they carry.
Don't knock it - add in fat and they work well. As noted, they have less sodium than similar foods - and those meals have vitamins added (and fiber). So yes, you will have to eat a lot more of them to fill up, but nutritionally they are not bad.
Ok here is a picture of the food i was talking about. like i said it really taste good.
