I knew what he was talking about, it looks like the "Goldilocks" of backpacks, just enough, but not too much, for warmer hikes anyway. ULA quality/customer service too boot.

That's the first ULA pack that has caught my eye...your gonna have to pack that thing back up and let me try it on the next time I'm over John!!

Quoddy, what "Tarp, Bivy, Pad, 30F Quilt," are you using, very curious as I am looking at an OHM and wanted to make sure that i can get my gear in there.

I thought the same thing when I took it out of the shipping box. Once I put in the pad and loaded it up it was nowhere near my back or side. I had another WB member, WalterP, try it on last week and he too thought it felt great and had no problem with frame contact either.

I'm using an MLD Grace Solo tarp (Spectralite), MLD Soul Side zip bivy, Montbell UL90 pad and Montbell pillow, and Nunatak Specialist Quilt. I sometimes replace the pad with a BMW Torsolite, or even a GG Nightlight Torso. In the pack besides those things mentioned are: ID Silcoat rain cape, Montbell UL down parka, wind shirt, socks, stove/pot, fuel, misc. items, and have loads of room left over for food.

I'd guess that you are referring to the one's on the shoulder straps and not the others that hold up to at least 1L bottles on the sides of the pack. So yes I did, but decided to get just one this time. I have two on the Conduit. Used one for a 20oz bottle and the other to hold my bandana for sweat wiping. They work fine, but the type of bottle must be chosen carefully. Finding bottles with indentations at the same points that the bungees are located is the key.

Just did a quick calculation on Quoddy's gear to estimate the weight and cost if someone were to duplicate this today. My figures DO NOT include socks, stove, pot, fuel, and miscellaneous items as these could not be identified.

Total weight..........approximately 5-1/2 pounds (90 oz)

Total retail cost......approximately $ 1,400 (USD)


Taking a very optomistic estimate (high) and adding in the previously ommited items, I get an estimated weight of 7-1/2 pounds and $1500. Take these numbers with a whole shaker of salt. There are simply too many possible combinations out there.
