Hey guys - great forum you have going here. After four years of being backpacking spoiled at college near the catskills it has taken me a couple years to settle in and accept that out here in the real world anything more than a one or two nighter can be tough to come by. I am excited to start making my own gear so at least my non backpacking time can be spent doing something related. Materials have been ordered to try my hand at tent making - but while doing research for my tent design a member of thebackpacker.com forums sent me over here for advice, and after browsing around all I can think about now is building a stove. While I wait for the tent materials to show up, I figure I'll give it a go.
Wondering if woodstove gasket material is viable as wick between the inner and outer walls of a side jet type stove? I see fiberglass tape and insulation seem to be common and I have seen gasket material mentioned but cannot find a thread that elaborates on the results. I appologize if I am asking a question that has been answered repetitively. Did a thread search and didn't come up with what I was looking for.
Again, great forum here. I really appreciate the opportunity to steal such inspired ideas.
