Took most of the winter off of hiking, not because I wanted to but due to sheer inconvenience (if you can call it that in a bad economy) of having to work too much, but I did get myself a new pair of hiking boots, long overdue. And the Wife bought be a wonderful new Osprey Atmos 65 backpack.

Of course I was dying to try them out, so I finally went out Friday morning about 6. Hiked about 3 miles into a local state forest and ended up near a lake and an established campsite with firepit. Set up the tent about 9 am (had left around 7am) and relaxed the morning away listening to music in the tent. Woke up and got some lunch ready, started a small camp fire, and about 1pm started in on a few nips of bourbon.

The rest of the afternoon went accordingly. No people, good food, good drink, and good times had by..... me. Went to sleep early, slept wonderfully, woke up and went to work today in a great mood. Nothing better than 24 hours alone in the woods. Besides, more than 24 hours. Just wanted to post a few pics of my relaxing day.

Got that just about right! Don't know why I can't remember that more often & just get out for a night, instead of always dreaming of getting out for half a year. I think I know where next weekend will be.

The overnight is such a simple concept. So easy to plan. And always worth the minimal amount of effort.

I should have brought myself a steak to cook but I wasn't relying on being able to have a fire. I always dream big and start small. This year isn't the year for a thru hike, I wanted it to be, but we knew 6 months ago it wouldn't happen. So this year I am going to concentrate on getting out as many times as I can from 1-7 days. I figure 7-10 overnights. 3 two night outings and 2 5-7 day outings will cap off my spring and summer. New Job doing roofing estimates and I have been working non stop at the restaurant still.

My father is in the process of purchasing another multi-family rental property too. So thats another full time job in itself. 3 jobs for the summer. Can't complain, but I can't hike as much either.
