I have a MH down jacket that i was thinking about taking for the start of my thru. I'll be starting the approach trail the 17th. Will i need it? I don't plan on hiking in it, just for warmth around camp. It weighs 14 oz or so and packs fairly small but i'd rather not take it if i'm not going to need it. Should i just carry it and send it home a few weeks later?

Im taking my Patagonia down coat to use at camp and at night and I am going to be on Springer the day after you.. Take it and mail it home in a few weeks or a month.

They are nice, I had the mont-bell ultra-light down jacket and used it a good deal.
They are good for keeping the bitting bugs off you too. Good to stuff in the sleeping bag by your feet to keep them a little warmer.

You'll use it a lot the first month or so.

Take it. You can always mail it home later.

I would carry an over-kill down down parka for camp, almost silly-warm. Since I wouldn't be hiking in it I don't have to worry about sweating. I want to be warm when I stop, so say get a warm one and send it home once the temps warm up.

I took mine until mid May. Liked having it very much.

I'm leaving the day before you. I'll be taking my montbell inner parka (and down pants as well). I'm not an experienced hiker though.
