I am hiking to Clarks Ferry Shelter and somebody wants to park near Duncannon and hike up to meet me at the shelter. Where is the best place to park a car safely in Duncannon?

you could try asking the campground at the river. It's right on the trail.

you may want to call the doyle hotel and ask the owner there if they can recommend a place to park. i'm sure they'll be able to give better info

Talk to Trail Angel Mary here on WB. She can also arrange shuttles.

Parking at the Doyle is very limited.

The Doyle parking lot is not usually an issue for room to park. But, yes, just let Pat or Vicki know your vehicle is there. The alley that runs behind the Doyle is safe too....at the end intersecting Ann St.

I have not personally nor anyone I know in the SATC yet had problems at the parking area amid the offramps for PA 147 from US 22/322. This is on the east end of the US 22/322 Clarks Ferry Bridge that also carries the A.T. over the Susquehanna. From this point, the A.T. trail-north heads across the railroad and up into the woods. TAMary would be more likely to hear of problems there than me, so I do wonder why it hasn't previously been suggested.

Of course there's no guarantee anywhere, but I would suspect the constant traffic through the PA 147 interchange area would dissuade vandals.

I do watch out and try not to park directly under the Jersey barrier sharp curve on the east end of the Clarks Ferry bridge, sometimes trucks that try that at 70+ mph instead of the posted 45 mph and don't make it -- debris might then rain down on your car.

If your partner is meeting you at Clark's Ferry Shelter they might want to park at PA 225 since it's a much easier 4 miles than hiking uphill out of Duncannon. I've parked there before with no issues.

My brother had his car broken into on the other side of the river. He was in the parking area on 322 before Duncannon. He was doing a pre thru warmup hike and someone smashed his windows to take the radio and speakers. This was mabye 04 or 05.

225 parking area is safe, 322 lot is not always safe.
