We've had lots of rain in the Raleigh area in the past few weeks and months, but I don't know if the same can be said for the Mountains. We are planning a section hike in couple of weeks from Devil Fork Gap to Erwin (or beyond), what's the water situation like up there? We did Devil Fork south to Hot Springs last September and most of the springs were dry or barely running back then. Has winter replenished the groundwater any?

Thanks for any info....

Thanks for any info....Hey Short Term. Things are flowing right now. When you start your drop from Spivey Gap to Erwin, you will need to get water at either north at or north of 19W or No Business shelter. No real realible source except for those until Erwin.

But the Sugarloaf Branch, the Big Rock spring, Hogback Ridge are all flowing. There are a couple springs from Sams Gap to Low Gap going to Big Bald that go dry quick. But the main sources I hear are still running good.

Thanks.

We'll be up there this weekend. Hope the water situation holds true.

Maybe we'll run into you again. Hiking Saturday to Monday.

Picked up 4 hikers at Sams Gap. They told me that had some snow the other night at Flint Mountain. Its been raining here nearly all week.

Can't comment on the entire section, but I did Devil Fork Gap to Spivey Gap last weekend and there was adquate flow at all the springs where I got water. Plus, it rained on me most of the day Saturday.
