View Full Version : stretchy sleeping bag?
i remember several years ago reading a backpacker magazine review on a sleeping bag that stretched side to side at the feet for people who needed more foot room or had restless legs.
it was supposed to be a great bag but i can't remember the company who made it for the life of me.
can anyone clue me in or know of a bag made today that is similar?
thanks

there was a crazy-legs, stretchy-legs by mountainhardwear?
Montbell superstretch will stretch through the length of the bag, not just the feet.

I have a Montbell SS Hugger. You can really stretch in that thing, sit indian-style etc.... very comfy. I think Sierra designs has something like it also.

We have a Crazy Legs MH bag from about 10 years ago. It was my understanding they had to cease mfg due to a patent infringement suit filed by MB. I do like my MB SS much better than the crazy legs...

Just bought mine, can't wait to use it next month.
I have been looking at the Montbell bags, but the 5'10" limit on the regular throws me off, as I'm around 5'11". I don't want to carry the extra weight of the long if I don't have to. Is the length limit accurate for those who have experience with these bags?
Yes, I'm 6'3 and use the long ... i have room in the footbox and the hood covers my head without pulling or stretching ... but i wouldn't try to fit a 6'5 man in the bag ... goes for the regular ... i'd go with a long ... you can compress the footbox and shrink it down to your size to minimize heat loss .... Or keep wet socks/shirts down there to dry over night ... the extra weight for the long is laughable.

I haven't looked but I'm sure the weight is in a few ounces. I have been in that position with a woman's bag that is 5 5 and i'm 5 6 but I bought the long for comfort. I can't stand my feet being squished when on my back. But if you are a side sleeper, it might not make much difference.
I am 6' even and have a long. I think you would be better off with that size. It is not real big on me, and I can't use the foot box compressor that comes with the bag. Go long.
Hey Engine,
I'm 5'10", and have 2 montbell bags...and I would say I had another inch of length and at 5'11", you would fit in there. Also, MB has a pretty great return policy, so if you get it and it's not long enough, you can return it pretty easily.

What about the temp ratings? Do you all feel they rate to comfort or survival?
Nearly Normal

I have an older SD Sandman model that is a flex. Over rated at 30 degrees. Only good to about 40 for me and heavy by todays standard.
My next will be a Mont Bell.
