That's right down the road from me. Unfortunately I have to work that week or else I'd go.
Here's a site that may help you out information wise. This map is better than the map the park provides. (It's to old map they used to issue.) I still use this one. I like the elevation profile, which isn't on the new maps.

Your LHT hike is 1 year plus one week after mine (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=7356). Nice trail - have a good hike. Don't get lost around the 7 Springs resort.

no kidding. i did the LHT thanksgiving week 2007 and got dumped on with snow and fog the day I crossed 7 Springs. couldnt see 20 feet in front of me. no lie, i spent almost an hour trying to find the trail.

If you are starting at Ohio pyle, that uphill is quite dramatic, looooooooooooong steep grade. After that, nice rolling terrain, good trail. Have a nice hike,

I remember 2 short uphills a few miles out of Ohiopyle where you're still paralleling the Youghiogheny River; I'd say about 500-600' of ascent each. Not much compared to most of the AT. The reward is nice views of the river. The longest uphill (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=221886) comes after the first set of shelters about 7 miles from the start. It's about a 1,000' ascent and the last major uphill of the whole trail.

If you are leaving a vehicle at the trail head I would get a ride and hike from Johnstown and leave the vehicle at Ohiopyle. The trail head parking lot at Johnstown is famous for vandalism and theft. Also, if you are not in good hiking condition north to south is a little easier.

Cooker, that is the one I am talking about, the one the shelters are at. That is a pretty steep grade, not particularly long, but steep.
The LHT is a great trail. I hiked it 2 years ago with a group of Boy Scouts. The toughest part is NB between miles 6 and 9, where you gain almost 1500' of elevation. After that it's smooth sailing. Also, the Seven Springs resort is not real accommodating with the trail. They don't mark it very well, and don't seem to care if they put big piles of dirt and logs right on the trail. It's kind of cool to hike on the ski slopes, though, especially if you have experienced them on skis.
Good luck to you. I hope you have a great hike. The Laurel Highlands Trail is one of the most enjoyable hikes I've ever taken. The shelters are really cool.

You're absolutely right about the 7 Springs resort (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=221887)- it's the worst part of the LHT.
