No folks, the AT has not grown. What is being refered to is in fact another trail that connects to the AT. This trail is the IAT or International Appalachian Trail, much like others that connect such as the Bartrum and numerous others. Nice trail, but not the AT.

Hmmm... To be accurate, the appalachian mountain range extends from Georgia to the western tip of Newfoundland... Currently, the AT extends from Springer to Katahdin, then the IAT extends from Baxter Park across the US/Canadian Boarder, through New Brunswick, and Quebec. To really make it a complete thru hike one would also have to hike the final portion in NFLD...

I've done most of the NB and Quebec portions of the IAT, and found there to be to much road walking in NB but the Quebec portion was stunning... Probably some of the most incredible hiking i've ever done... I hear there has some improvements to the NB section since i've hiked it last, so i'm planning on doing it again this fall to see whats changed...

I wonder if a complete thru hike will ever include both the AT and IAT?

Actually, there have been a handful of hikers that have hiked the full IAT from Key West Florida to Cape Gaspe Bay Newfoundland. The documented thru hike of the IAT was Nimblewill Nomad. He has hiked it both NOBO and SOBO.

Speaking of...... has anyone heard where Nimblewill is and what his latest adventure is??
