My trip went well! All I can say is..."I AM HOOKED"! I wanna tell everyone thank you for all you help and tips. I dont think I would have been as prepared without you all.
We started off at Allens Gap on March 29th (1 hour late due to shuttling).
We dubbed ourselves the Ohio 5!!! What a killer first climb.
The day started out mild but the temps dropped through out the day! When we got to the point where we were camping(jones meadow) a heavy bank of clouds was moving through, and we experienced SNOW!!
It was a cold night temps dropped to the 20ish mark, with wind gust around 15-20 mph. My buddy said he woke up a couple times with the TT touchin him in the face. My tarp tent performed well (nice n dry), and stayed put all night, and I love my WM ultralight (toasty warm).
The next morning brought a very welcome sight. The sun and the beauty the weather system brought the night before. Hoar Frost every where. The trees were beautiful! The hike across Big Firescald Knob was breath taking.
By the time we got to Jerrys Cabin Shelter. Our friend Dan knees were not doing well and he decided to stay with our two other buddys. Dan was carrying way to much food. We gave him the trail name Chuckwagon. They gave their blessing for Stoob and I to move on! We were pretty broke up, but we were there to hike not camp. We camped at Flint Mountain Shelter that night.
The next day up over Sugarloaf Gap was cold and windy pretty uneventful, but we did get a good view of Big Bald off in the distance. We sheltered at Hogback Ridge that night (rainy) with some cool thru hikers.
We woke up to rain and fog the next day for our hike to Big Bald. The rain did not last long but the fog persisted for majority of the day. The sun burning away the fog somewhere around noon. This gave us a good hike up to Big Bald and some wonderful views. We sheltered again at Big Bald shelter, aired our gear, and made dinner in the remainder of the afternoon sunshine!
The last day we pulled our first big miles day! We hiked the last 17miles our to suprise our friends we left behind. Me n Stoob's feet were hurting. He had killer blisters. My knee and heels were killing me. At one point we thought we took a wrong turn because the blazes were far apart.
All-in-all! We got to experience it all snow/rain/sun, great views, a big mile day, hurting feet and knees! I am very happy with the gear I purchased.
We had a freaking blast! We are already planning another trip.
I am posting more photos today of our trip including "Stoobs" creative sunset photos (really cool).
