I hiked this trail for the 1st time ever(even though I've lived 20 minutes away from it my entire life) on Monday...I know it's a pretty short trail compared to some of the ones many of you hike but I'm new to hiking so I'm trying to break myself in. It's 3.5 miles to the big falls and 3.5 out for a total of 7 miles and I thought it was beautiful. I took my time going in and took pictures but on the way out I wanted to time myself just to see how long it took me to hike 3.5 miles at a normal pace and I made it in an hour and 20 minutes....being out of shape and new to hiking I thought that was pretty good...lol....I've got a youtube slide show from the trail if anyone is interested(link below)

Liked the music! One of my favorite hikes. You were given a real treat to see so much water over the falls and along the stream. It's been a long time since that much water has flowed that heavily. The wildflowers were a bonus. Super glad you shared.

Try the Ravens Cliffs hike just outside Helen You should enjoy that as well. Then post another entry with some more great music.

Nice video, and thanks for sharing. I was also surprised to see that much water in Panther Creek. It's nice to see our water levels returning to normal.

It just doesn't get much better than spring time in the mountains!

I hiked that trail once while visiting relatives in GA. Beautiful trail. That and Pine Mountain (also in GA) are a couple of the best trails I had never heard of.

I only live about 25 minutes from there and anytime we have guests who want to go for a short hike we go there. It can be crowded but is definitely beautiful. Have you ever followed it out to Lake Yonah beyond the falls? I think it is another 3 or 4 milrs to do that.

The actual trail continues past the falls for about 2 more miles....it ends at a dirt road that you can follow for 2-3 more miles to lake Yonah....I have driven up that dirt road several times for trout fishing because it is by far the easiest way to access the river for fishing but I have never hiked that section of the trail...from what I've been told that 2 mile section of the trail between the dirt road and the falls is poorly maintained because it rarely gets used because most people start from hwy 441 and just hike to the falls and back

I have several trails I plan on dayhiking(and maybe doing some overnighters) and Raven Cliffs is on my list....I plan on making similar videos for all of the hikes I attempt and posting them on youtube...I'll make sure I put up a link for all of them.

Hope you got on the old trail section and got to see the smaller water falls, to the right.

We'll be doing several water falls around Turner's Corner this weekend, you're welcome to join us.

I hiked panther creek today and I really enjoyed it. Hardly anyone else out there. I passed a woman who had some teenage boys with her who for whatever reason were wearing biking helmets.
And two guys with a chainsaw. I had to stop and ask about that one!
Well they have a friend who use to be an avid hiker but was in a bad car accident resulting in brain damage. Well he wants to try hiking again but he can't take really high steps, so they were out there cutting the trees in half that had fallen on the trail and rolling them off. Isn't that such a nice thing to do for someone??
