I have been out of town and thus this news is more than a week late, but I thought that many of you would be interested in reading Right to Hike's latest news letter.

For those of you unaware of this group, it was founded by the friends of Meredith Emerson (a quick search of WB will provide further background information). They raise money to support a variety of efforts related to hiker safety.

Bring the Family to Celebrate Earth Day

Dear Right to Hike Members,

Please join us this coming Saturday, April 18th at The Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center from 9am-5pm to celebrate Earth Day. Right to Hike, Inc. is a proud supporter of this event and their goals of educating the community about protecting our environment and getting families involved in the outdoors. The weather is supposed to be beautiful, so come out and enjoy a wonderful day.
The GEHC has teamed up with the Freemasons of Georgia, to bring earth day participants GACHIP or Georgia Child Identification Program which is designed to raise public awareness concerning the risk of abduction or exploitation that children face today. The GACHIP program is free of charge to the public and will include full color digital photographs of the child, digital fingerprints, information about the child as well as teeth impressions. This information is critical for the safety of your child, please take this free opportunity to protect them. We believe that precaution is something we can all learn from Meredith's story.
This event will also include the Eco Run, a 5K run, encompasses a challenging course with multiple surfaces which is sure to give even the most experienced runner a work out. The run starts at 8am on Saturday and registration is only $25. In conjunction with Nike the GEHC is participating in the ‘Reuse-A-Shoe’ program. Thanks to Nike's innovative Reuse-A-Shoe program (http://www.righttohikeinc.com/typo3/ext/fastblast/mod1/FastBlastWow.php?act=click&camp=28&url=311e5f7c24a159618130824f2abbd611) your old shoes can be used for something really useful! This project turns old athletic shoes of any brand into sports surfaces for community use. Please bring a pair of old athletic sneakers with you to Earth and help our community! In addition, they are also offering a ‘recycle used electronics’ program. Through the responsible use, reuse and recycling of electronics, the electronics industry and consumers can work together to protect and preserve the environment.
Right to Hike, Inc. will be on-site educating the community about our foundation and offering different R2H items, including t-shirts and fun items for your favorite furry friends! We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
