I am starting my hike in NY and heading down to Harpers Ferry. A girlfriend is dropping me off somewhere in NY, and she would like to hike the first few days with me. Is there a place where we can leave her car and be driven back up the trail a ways (say 50 miles). Otherwise, she will have to hike a few days with me, then run back before she has to return to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've never hiked in this area before. I am more than willing to pay for taxi service, if it's not in the hundreds of dollars.

I am in the NY area. Depending on when you are looking to do it I may be able to help out. I am on the NY/CT state line area. Pawling to be more specific.

Depending on your plans, you may be able to park the car at your planned (for her) end point, take public transport to NYC and then a bus or train to your start.

yep, metro north harlem line drops you right on the AT on the weekends or pawling (3 miles away) at other times
