WOOO class of 12! I am graduating from college that year and wanted to celebrate by doing a thru! I will be heading out NOBO right after finals so around mid may. Anyone else planning that time frame?

I'm hoping that funds will allow me to hike in 2012. I've got most of my gear already, read some inspirational books, and have started training. I'm super pumped.

There are several of these posts out there!! I too am hoping for a Mid March 2012 start date. A lot depends on finances -- just like many of you out there :rolleyes:
I will be doing a section in TN/VA in April and I can't wait!!

I was thinking about leaving late Feb or early march. I'll be eighteen. I graduate high school in June. My mom won't let me go unless I hook up with a group/partner. Let me know if anyone is interested. Good luck to everybody! c:

I want to go in 2012. It all depends on whats going on with the tent business. If I can manage to get away for 6 months then yes. I guess for me the entire trip will be a 'business trip'.

I am also planning to head out March 2012, Started training yesterday =) So far I haven't found anyone who is serious enough that I can count on doing the whole thing with. Im a 31 female who is married to a cop who serves with the national guard who WILL NOT let me go alone. Help me!!!!
I'm shooting for a 2012 hike. What direction and when is dependent upon certain factors. More to come...

Not sure where I would post this so I thought that here would be a good start. I am planning on Nobo in March 2012.
How in the world do I find a safe way to find someone to partner up with? It is really the make or break of the trip.

There's a body of opinion... a pretty well documented opinion, that generally, when two people hook up to be partners before a thru hike, they soon end up going their separate ways. All the little compromises can take their toll. Speed of hiking, where to stop, whether to take another zero ... The common answer is that a mid-March start will assure that you are around lots of fellow hikers. You'll have people to hike with, or you'll hike alone, but you'll generally have companionship at shelters, and never hurt for assistance.

I am also looking at either a march or april 1st start, will depend solely on the weather ... It'll be awesome too run into some of you, lightfire especially because i'll be using your duo ... I've settled on the tent, just waiting too buy it now ...

Add me to the list. I'm planning a NOBO thru-hike starting the last week of March - first of April. I'm flexible. I'll be hammocking.
I have 0 backpacking experience, so I have a year to get my gear together, train and do a few shorter hikes to make sure my gear works.
Sounds like I won't be alone out there. Hope to get to know some of you between now and then and maybe see you on the trail.

A group of friends and I will be thru-hiking the AT northbound from Springer Mountain with a tentative start date of March 15, 2012. I look forward to bumping into some of you along the way.

Got off the trail last July and I would dearly love to return this year.
All my Lyme Disease has cleared up and I'm ready( but my bank account isn't!!)

NOBO starting March 1, 2012.
Shakedown March 3-12 this year starting at springer.
I'm starting out in Alabama in late February/early March in 2012 -- not only are the Central Alabama trails close to home, but it will help me acclimate to the trail BEFORE SPRINGER MOUNTAIN!
My only stumbling block is finding someone(s) to care for my old terrier, little pionus, and my cockatoo. Major concern...:(
I spend a lot of time outside and camping, so I've started accumulating gear, and started with small local hikes. I'm a real do-it-yourself-er... and a fan of Rube Goldberg!;)
I, too, have superior interior insulation, but I have too much, so I will have to shed some of my own pounds while conditioning.
Look for me... I'm the fat old lady in a skirt!:eek:

My Son and I are leaving from Ga on 5-5-12...can't wait. We live near the Smokey Mountains and are gonna train for the next year ...can't wait :)
