I am looking for some starter backpacking trails for my husband and I. We are new to hiking and would like some info on trails, 3 day hikes, or anything that would be helpful. We live in Ohio.

Thanks:)

i second what joe nye said...zaleski is a great trail to start backpacking on. nothing too difficult and plenty of ways to bail out if you need to. the shawnee near portsmouth is another good trail, but more difficult. i usually hike both at least once a year while i'm jonesn' for the AT.

Meighen - I'm in Ohio as well. Zaleski is a great 2 or 3 day hike. All together, I believe it's 24 miles (if you do the back loop as well). We've done it in 2 days, but 3 would probably be more enjoyable if you're just starting out. And as the other said, there are a few "outs" if things don't go well for you.

Old Man Cave at Hocking Hills SP is a great day hike loop trail (approx 7 miles). There are several other 4-5 mile loops in the same area. Wonderful views.

May want to check out the info on this site: http://www.neohbackpackingclub.com/home.aspx - even if you aren't "clubbers" they've got a lot of destination information and trip reports.
