I hiked in on a sectional from Carvers Gap. Had a great time. Everyone I met was kind and giving. First Baptist Church in Damascus completely rocks. They provided meals, deserts, health screens, free showers and shuttles along the trail for those who needed it. - all out of their own kindness. How can anyone say anything bad about this town. I saw Blue Blaze just picking up hikers on Shady Valley road shuttling them back to tent city or to town.

I drove down from RI just to see what it was like. All the folks I met were friendly, though the workers at Cowboy's and Dot's seemed a little overwhelmed with all the people. Dot's has a very good cheesburger. Lone Wolf was there and I got to shake his hand. He looks healthy and fit. Packed at 6:00 in the rain yesterday morning (nice to have a car trunk to throw the wet gear into :)). I left at around 8:00 AM and got back shortly after midnight. Too much driving (and beef, pork, chicken, etc. - oh, and BEER - my neighbors made sure I had one in my hand at all times :D). Wish I had more time. Eight hundred miles each way is too much for 1-1/2 days, but at least I know where Damascus is and can comment on Trail Days. Oh, no pictures. I broke the screen on my digital camera and had to make do with a disposable 35 mm.
I had a blast.
Lessons learned:
1)Take more food. I'll probably set up to cook more next year.
2) Camp further back in woods. The foot traffic was wearing thin on me.

Glad you made it home safe. 15 hours for us. Left noon Sunday, hit Portland, ME about 3 this morning. 1830 total miles. Good thing it is only once a year!! :D:D
Had a GREAT time as usual. Here's hoping all feel the same way and that everyone made it to their destination (whether it be home or the next shelter) safe.

Great to see the pics. Seems the closer we move to the area the further I get from being able to attend. :( Daughter's bridal shower was Saturday and it's too far to drive down on Sunday for the day. Maybe next year. But this coming weekend hubby and I will be in town to at least finally see the place and have a beer and burger. Camping up at Grayson Highlands State Park for a few days.

And we got the pictures to prove it, or at least you do Ron.
It was nice to see you and the family enjoying yourselves, especially you Ron. Are your feet sore from dancing around that fire ring?
There were many in the campground that went out early that said they were sorry they missed you.., especially Jack, who even seemed displeased that at least you were kind enough to leave a calling card;)
I asked Wolf what 'Trail Daze' was like sober.:) I believe he said, "even worse". Oh well I had a great time and I hope everyone else did.

you even defied the weather forecast and had a beautiful day on saturday. So, don't listen to weatherman or internet naysayers.
It was indeed a great time. I had a great time meeting new folks like ATTroll, Awol, Chaco and Wak, Model T, Gene Espy, Little Bear, Blinky, etc. Damascus did a great job putting together a wonderful event. Bottom line? Crap on the naysayers, they missed out.
I enjoyed myself, it was nice to be back in the trail community once more. It was great seeing everyone again, and meeting a lot of WB'ers I had not met yet.

I've been there the last five years and every year the weather is great on Saturday. This year was no exception. :sun
Hats off to Leki who fixed up my poles real nice. Gear people very helpful.
Wish I saw more 2007 alumni this year, sniff. And missed out on the WB gathering as I had to leave early, double sniff.

I must admit, I didn't come because of what I heard, but I heard it from my boss and 2 short vacations in 3 weeks were too much to hope for. Hope to meet many of you next year!
Went for saturday, great weather, left right before the rain on sat night,
Harder and harder to find class of 95' hikers every year.
Had a great time, always hard to leave damascus and go back to work, knowking what fun people area having on the AT right now.

Good to hear. When I left early Sunday there was a pile of beer cans under the awning next to Billville where my generous neighbors had been partying. I figured they'd clean it up. (I wonder if they found my favorite knife - SAK Adventurer). I left it on top of my cooler and someone had used the cooler for a seat when it started to rain. Oh, well. Small loss for such a good time.

Still enroute, sitting in the hotel bar of the Hilton at the Knoxville Airport, weekend way to short, unfortunatley missed hardcore this year however enjoyed a great Billvile slumber party on the top of Beauty Spot last night, more folks were scheduled to arrive tonight after hardcore. As I walked down the path from the top of beauty spot I felt the weekend was way to short of period to spend with such wonderful and close friends that unfortunatley are far away on daily basis.

It is the best trail magic that I've ever recieved!
To all out there that have never met Tinker (INCUDING ME!), the man is incredible. A while back he advertised a BPing guitar for sale. I am horrible with any type of musical instrument but figured that I would like to learn so I contacted him and we worked out a deal. Later in the week Tinker found that the guitar had a problem and was not willing to sell it in that condition. 5 months later I get an email from him stating that he is coming to TD's and that he will GIVE me the guitar. I looked for him all weekend as well as he looking for me but we never saw each other. He left the campground to go home and took the guitar with him. While stopping at Cowboys he turned around and decided to give it one more try with the guitar. He ran into Chaco, Chaco got the guitar to me and the rest is just more incredible trail magic.

RiverWarrior, what are the details on your dog? I might be able to keep him/her for a few days. Then you would have the Place or the MRO hostel for yourself, could pick up the dog during the day. I'll come by the MRO hostel tonight to see if you're there.
Duh. Your dog's a "him." That was a dumb question on my part. I meant to ask, "Is your dog a raving lunatic which will bite me on the buttocks and chase my grand-children?"

Lots of sausages and a big cheeseburger at Dot's. Too much meat :o.
I guess I have to admit that salad and beer don't go together all that well. Back home I'm behaving myself a little better (probably because my wife does the cooking here ;)).
Btw: I'm anything but cool. Different and weird are two adjectives that people use to describe me.
