What are some suggestions for a good 15degree down bag for 5ft4in gal. I would like warm and light and long lasting all in one.

How do you sleep? On your back? On your side? Do you thrash around a lot? Pull your knees up to your chest?

My wife had a Western Mountaineering Ultralite, which is a slim-cut 20-F mummy bag. Great bag -- but not for a thrashing side-sleeper who pulls her knees up to her chest. For a non-thrashing back sleeper, it's a terrific bag.

Now she has two Montbell UL Super Stretch Down Hugger bags -- the #0 winter bag (rated to 0-F) and the #3 3-season bag (rated to 30-F.) If you want a 15-F bag, the #1 Montbell UL SS DH might be a good choice.

She sleeps cold, and the #3 has kept her warm to just below freezing (wearing her fleece top and bottom and inside a Tarptent on a good pad.) The #0 hasn't seen a real winter trip yet, but she won't want to be out below 15 anyway, so it should be perfect for her.

NOTE: with both WM and Montbell I would strongly recommend trying the bags before automatically buying the shorter bag. My wife is 5-4 and the WM "regular" (fits to 6-0) was the right size, and with the Montbell she uses the "long" bags (fits to 6-2, supposedly.) In both cases the "short" bags should have been the right size but weren't. So it's worth trying them on.

There are other good options -- Marmot makes good bags, too the Helium being the right rating for you. In any case I like a bag with a full zipper so I can use it as a quilt in higher temps.

Good luck and happy trails.

My wife is 5'2" and she is a cold sleeper. She is currently using a Kelty Light Year 20* down bag and has sworn it's by far the nicest bag she has slept in. There is an extra 3-4" of length in the footbox so it would fit a 5'4" hiker. It is a women specific design, so the fit is right as well. Lastly it's tough to beat the price for a 2 1/4 pound bag that packs really small.

Western Mountaineering. Beautiful, light, conservatively rated, lifetime bags (if cared for properly); made in the USA. I think the women's specific designs are overblown, unless you talk to the marketing department.

Feathered Friends and Western Mountaineering will meet your criteria of long lasting.

Feathered Friends has MANY different models, widths, lengths and women-specific bags.

Yes I am a cold sleeper and I sleep half way on my stomach and half way on my side with my knee bent half way up to my chest. Odd position I know, but I have had to adjust with my cat a small dog. LOL

Then I would expect a Montbell UL Super Stretch Down Hugger #1 would keep you warm well below freezing, and allow the movement and sleeping position. (Warmth assumes you are on a good pad and out of the wind.)
