This year's hiking week will be Saturday, May 23 through Sunday, May 31.

DCNR has once again teamed with Keystone Trails Association (KTA) to offer nearly 100 organized hikes and walks available throughout Pennsylvania during the nine-day event.

Click on schedule (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/info/hikingweek/sc.aspx?RegionID=4&StartDate=%2705/23/2009%27&EndDate=%2705/31/2009%27%27) to view offerings in the southcentral region. For hikes in other regions, select a region from the menu on the left of DCNR's page.

There are a number of AT hikes sponsored by SATC, two hikes at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33534) and another at Gettysburg to be led by someone in period dress just to name a few.

Most hikes are suitable for someone just breaking into hiking or getting back into it. Get outside, explore somewhere new, get some fresh air, smell the roses and make new friends!

Here's the SATC hike list: http://www.satc-hike.org/hikes.html Somehow the "Drive, Hike & Eat" hike on 5/30 didn't make it onto the state list.

It really varies. Almost seems to me that the average has gone from 6-8 to maybe 4-6 lately. The kids hikes range from maybe 2 on a cloudy/rainy day to 30 on a nice day.

I'd participate in the Middle Creek hike, but I'll be at the last screening of A sense of wonder at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary tomorrow. Maybe someone else will hike and post a report.;)

The Peter's Mountain Sunset over the Susquehanna hike departing within the hour would be a good one too. Quick scramble and hike! There's still time.:)

Two days remain. Get out and hike, just for the health of it!
