I'm looking for shuttle ideas for either of the following 2 scenarios....

1. Park at Pen-Mar park and get shuttled to Delaware Water Gap and hike PA SOBO.

or....

2. Park at Deleware Gap and get a ride to Pen-Mar Park and hike PA NOBO.

I don't know how far this is by road but I'm guessing it's a fairly long shuttle ride... Is there anyone up that way that would do this?

... and which would be the best way - NOBO or SOBO - for both parking and hiking.

There's a possiblity you might be able to utilize the bus as one segment of your shuttle. There's bus service at DWG.

Yuk..... :)It's a long shuttle, could be expensive. There isn't service between Harrisburg and Hagerstown directly anyway though AFAIK.

Try Zoidfu, he mentioned wanting to do shuttles or Trailangel Mary.

Both ways have good parking at either end... This is an extremely long shuttle though as it will require multiple freeway shifts and to get there fast expect to be paying for the turnpike tolls and gas.... PM me about when you are going and I may be able to help out but like I said... its about a 3 hour ride

Yeah, it's definitely a ride....

Problem is, I'm in the south and up till Harper's Ferry the logisitics of arranging shuttles and what sections to hike have been pretty easy. I'm getting pretty far from home now (over 400 miles) and to make it worth while I need to hike longer sections.

I'm still trying to figure out how best to handle the rest of the trail. Right now I'm leaning towards hiking PA in July and then next May start at Deleware Water Gap and go all the way to Katahdin and knock it out.

Midway through PA mass transit becomes more workable. I used bus service and a shuttle between the 501 shelter and DWG, but had trouble with the southern part of PA making the connection from Hagerstown North as Greyhound cut service. Past DWG, there are a couple of sections that break down around 100-125 miles using NYC as a hub.

Couldn't you take a bus from DWG to Philadelphia, then AMTRAK to Harrisburg? This minimizes the time spent on the bus. From Harrisburg, you could more easily get your shuttle to PenMar than straight from DWG.

The Greyhound goes from Philadelphia and Harrisburg to Stroudsburg which is walking distance to DWG. Check it out.

Are you looking for a shuttle on a weekend or week day? Depending on my schedule I might be able to squeeze in something on a weekend. PM me and let me know.

I have already set up a ride for him on July 11th. If he wants a different date feel free to give him a lift. Even I have to break down and give rides every now and then since I grab em whenever possible also.
