View Full Version : 2010 Hike
Hey everyone,
I'm new to this website today, and am not exactly sure how it works, but I figured I'd give a shout-out to all the hikers planning to attempt to thru-hike in 2010. If anyone wants to start talking a little about plans and dates (etc.), let me know! I'm 18 and so far have only talked to people who have hiked in the past, never to anyone who is new to this like I am. I'm not sure if I want a partner, or if I want to solo hike, but it would be comforting to know someone else who is going through the same planning process as myself. Let me know! I look forward to meeting new people, before and during my hike!! :)
Red Beard 05-28-2009, 13:29 Hi Jane,
I'm a bit new myself. You can probably find more folks willing to hike with you in '10 here:
WhiteBlaze > Appalachain Trail Forums > Thru hiker classes > Class of 2010
(http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/index.php)
Miracle Man 05-28-2009, 13:47 Hi Jane,
I agree with Red Beard on info sources, also if you haven't yet you should read these books, good info from experienced thru-hikers. The Appalachian Trail How to prepare & Hike It by Jan D. Curran, Walking the Appalachian Trail by Larry Luxenberg, and Long Distance Hiking / Lessons from the Appalachian Trail by Roland Mueser. All good info sources. Good Luck ! by the way, I'm also from NH. Concord, although I now live in VA.

World-Wide 07-02-2009, 04:05 Hey Jane,
Congrats on your decision to attempt an A.T. thru-hike. Like MADDOG above, I'm heading out on 1 March 2010. I'm a social-beast by nature, but I'm keeping my own schedule (HYOH). I have no time constraints (except being on Katahdin by 15 Oct!) and really want to see as much of the trail and as many of the cool trail towns as possible. WB has been an awesome tool to gain knowledge on gear, food and everything trail related. Be careful of the strongly opinionated that won't budge from their point of view. Great advice from this site is to do your research and get out on trail to develope your own opinions and comfort-level with your gear!! Here's a WB "2010 thru-hike" thread started by Gorp-Gobbler: http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=38154 The reason I've selected this thread is that it has over 300 hits which might give you the best opportunity to possibly meet someone who has similar goals as you for their 2010 thru-hike. Best of luck!! World-Wide
ShelterLeopard 07-02-2009, 23:41 Hey Jane! I'm nineteen (and female as well). When are you starting? Are you going north or south? I'm going NoBo, and I'm starting late February/ early March. If you want to start together, give me a shout- I'm taking Amtrak from New Jersey to New York, straight down to Gainesville on a sleeper train, and then I'm going to stay at the Hiker Hostel (they'll pick you up in Gainesville or Atlanta, and then bring you to the trail head the next day, and feed you and give you a bed for $70). I like hiking solo, but I'd also really like to start with someone- the first couple weeks are the hardest, and I know I could use encouragement. (I suppose not encouragement so much as just that it is so much easier to keep going if you're with someone) Sorry to ramble on a bit. Anyway, if you're interested send me an e-mail- alicevolkov@yahoo.com .
Feeling Good 07-12-2009, 16:02 Good luck with everything.
I am planning a SOBO in June 2010.
Jane , I will be starting on the 1st of March NOBO I have a large finishing window but if we meet on the trail you are more than welcome to join up. I have plans in mid August 2010 to climb the Wyoming, Montana, Oregon and Washington Highpoints also in 2010. You can do it
