Honestly, I have never tried, or even had, to find this out. But I am curious and the answer could come in very handy.

I am using an MSR Whipserlite stove and it uses coleman fuel. I use it to boil water for dinner (usually liptons and cocoa) and at breakfast for cocoa and oatmeal. I don't use stove for lunches on trail. How many days of use should I get out of 22 ounces of fuel before I need to resupply on fuel?

I know I can go a week. Could I go two weeks?

I own a 33 ounce can and a 22 ounce can and am hoping to leave the 33 ounce can home.

I am going to be hiking a 160 mile trail soon (Cohos trail in northern New Hampshire) and I probably won't have as ready access to coleman fuel as I do along the AT. I expect the trip to take about 16 days with one max two zero days tossed in (so minimum of 14 days actually hiking.

Please help!

David

Try it on a short trip. Measure fuel befor and after then do some math.

Typically a 12 oz will last me a week easy if I am doing 4 cups for breakfast and 4 cups of hot water for dinner and I turn it off when teh water reaches a boil. a 22 should last you 2 weeks if you are careful with it.

I use the MSR Whisperlite. I only cook for dinner. I heat up 1 ltr water for drinks, then use rest for dinner. I usually cook the Lipton dinner packs (rice or noodle). After bowling the initial pot of water, I drop in the dinner contents and heat back to boil, then let stand until ready to eat. This usually means total burn time on stove of about 8-10 min. I am also not running it at WIDE OPEN mode, which probably saves me on fuel.
I have the 11 oz MSR fuel bottle and it usually lasts me over a week (7-8 days). Cant say exactly, as I havent ever drained it completely, but have gotten it close a couple times. So.. your 22 oz COULD theoretically get you through 13 or 14 days pretty comfortably and might be able to stretch to 15 or 16, depending on your cooking habits.

I use 2 oz of fuel a day for about the same or a little more cooking than you do. So you might be tight. Have you checked to make sure the bottle holds 22 oz with the pump and headspace? (I think so). Note, 11 nights is 12 days, so you are close. Can you take emergency Esbit tabs, build a fire, do a few mornings of poptarts/donuts? Are you going to spend two nights in the town for your zero?
You are getting pretty close to 14 days for 11 nights on the trail.

If you still want more fuel, why not take a few days fuel in a small light pop bottle and then throw the empty away in the first trash can?
