Planning a section hike from the Gap to Max patch. How is parking off 1-40 Waterville Rd? I've been where the trail crosses (some road) but was several years back and not sure road name and number of cars that can park there.
Standing Bear Hostel is just one mile in from I40. Curtis will let you park your car there - no problem. It's a much better solution than parking at the gap.

Most definitely park at Standing Bear. When I was there last year they were not in, and they had another guy watching the hostel, but it was still an excellent place.

Yeah, same as above. I've heard that leaving your car at Davenport or I-40 is not safe.

It is very bad leaving a car there. Yea call Curtis. Or you could hike a couple of extra miles past the patch to Lemon Gap. Good parking! Curtis can get you to and from
Standing Bear is a good bet.
The only other spot I would consider is Big Creek Ranger Station. It's 1.1 miles down the gravel road from Davenport Gap and should be perfectly safe for a few days. But you'll still have to walk that mile uphill to the Gap. You can probably get a ride to Davenport from Curtis at Standing Bear.
In either case, be sure to stop at Standing Bear. It's a great place to visit.

Thanks guys for all the input. I'm really looking forward to see max patch for the first time. Rhodes should be out or are there any up there?
