Wow, up .41, thats a lot of crocs :D
They have regular (monthly) warehouse sales around here....
I see quite a few knock-off brands in my local stores - I don't think I've ever seen an actual Croc-brand croc. It would not surprise me to learn that they are all made with different labels in the same Chinese factory, with hype and marketing being the only distinguishing features between them.
I wouldn't worry about stocking up lest they disappear forever. They will be lying in landfills, defying decomposition, for centuries. :-?
But they sure are light.

Chenango 06-19-2009, 11:03 I use the Wal*Mart immitations. The real Crocs are a bit thicker, but not much.

I think any company that comes up with a similar "unique" idea like Crocs will not last long for the above reason.
We are turning into a society where copies are ok.
Years ago, we needed the original, whether it was the Zenith TV, or the "Gore-tex" brand gear because they stood for quality.
Now, we go for price.
We are turning into a throw-away society. (well we've been for a while not just recently)
Companies like Walmart of course have a lot to do with this but it is almost everywhere now.
No big deal, i'm ok with it.
I've had Chinese vendors copy some of my ideas at flea markets for fleece headbands, balaclavas, and hat designs already. It sort of made me a little proud that they copied me although i know in the old days, it wouldn't have happened and i'd probably be a lot richer.
I've got a t-shirt idea now just begging to be produced here but am waiting for the right moment because it will get copied within a month for sure.

Lighter than Crocs and no creepy feeling on the inside.(I tried on a pair of Crocs once and immediately kicked them off. Something really creepy feeling about them). Both hubby and I wear Nothinz for our camp shoes.

years ago there was a difference in quality between the Zenith TV and the Chinese knockoff - nowadays they're made in the same factory.
unfortunately, I'm not cool with it when everything is crap...

The only way (that i can think of) to not join the game is to not be a consumer.
Not so easy.
Yes, it's a shame we are turning into a throw-away society and things lack quality.
However, you can stop buying things and make them all yourself. I actually have some friends that do this. They have sheep for their clothes, goats for their cheese and yoghurt, they are totally off the grid and have a great lifestyle but it is a lot of work.
I know of few alternatives although here in Thailand it is not so hard to live off the land as things grow so fast here (tropical climate with lots of rain)
But we still buy our cheap Chinese clothes that last less than a year.
(and i still type on my Japanese computer that was assembled in Taiwan, dont' we all?)
Holy Soles are the best, hands down.......

Zenith managed to do itself in.... see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenith_Electronics
By 1990, Zenith was in trouble, and looking more and more attractive to a hostile takeover. To avoid this, Zenith sold 5% of itself to LG Electronics as part of a technology-sharing agreement. With their analog line aging (the last major update to the line had been the System³ chassis in 1978), and the adoption of HDTV in the US years away, Zenith's prospects were dim. Eventually, LG would raise its stake in Zenith to 55%, enough to assume a controlling interest. Zenith eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapter_11,_Title_11,_United_States_Code) in 1999, and in exchange for its debts, LG offered to buy the part of Zenith it didn't already own. During this era, some of Zenith's products were being OEMed under the Admiral name.
Today, LG produces the Zenith DTT-900 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zenith_DTT-900&action=edit&redlink=1)[3] (http://www.zenith.com/dtv/dtt900.html) and Zenith DTT-901 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zenith_DTT-901&action=edit&redlink=1)[4] (http://www.zenith.com/products/set-top-atsc-digital-to-analog-converter-box/DTT901/) ATSC digital TV converter box. LG also offers some Zenith branded plasma, LCD, and direct view televisions through selected retail outlets.
I remember reading about Zenith's decline and fall in a management book. I've forgotten the details.
Too bad, I was a great fan of Zenith in the 1970's and sought out their products. Maybe I was suckered by great advertising.
Homer&Marje 06-19-2009, 22:22 Even if they do one of the 1000 knock off brands will take over. I wear "Dogs". Fantastic. I like that they come in black. Not hot pink.
I'm another fan of the NothinZ's. Damn things just won't wear out!
i tried a pair of crocs once. they went in the trash after a few days b/c i think they are pieces of ****.

Real Crocs or imitations? Most of the knockoffs ARE pieces of ****.

Crocs weren't even the originals. Read wikipedia.
Lemni Skate 06-20-2009, 12:22 I don't know about the lack of quality thing. My wife and I just had our television go out on us. We bought when we first got married (19 1/2 years ago). It was the absolute cheapest in the store for that size (I think it was a floor model even). Same thing with tennis shoes, jeans, etc. I never spend more than a few dollars on these things and they never wear out. The only thing I think of that we have bought that we had trouble with are toys for the kids (usually break before Christmas Breakfast is over) and a new Ford I bought once (last American car I ever bought, and last new car until an idiot T-boned my wife and we used the insurance settlement to buy a new Nissan Truck); I swear we kept the economy rolling with repair costs on that Ford.
Oh, the quality of my golf clubs always suck. No matter what brand or what price or where I buy them, they never hit the ball straight.
Homer&Marje 06-20-2009, 15:54 Paid $5 for my "dogs" a year ago....they even have trail miles on them after some river crossings. Have not worn out a bit. As comfortable as the day I bought them if not more. Wore them all day moving stuff out of my apartment.

Lighter than Crocs quote]
How much does a pair weigh,......and at what size?
Dingus Khan 06-21-2009, 22:24 FWIW - the croc warehouse/manufacturing center in quebec city (where i believe they originated and where i'm from) went out of business about 2 years ago, much in part to the cheaper wallyworld knockoffs.
i have never owned either and these are just reports from my parents who live not far from there...
not much of a clog/croc type of guy...
mooseboy 06-22-2009, 11:14 Crocs weren't even the originals. Read wikipedia.
I didn't say they were the originals, just that there are a lot of cruddy brands out there. My Crocs, on the other hand, have lasted for years.

There was discussion a few months ago that they may file for bankruptcy. Nothing has been set in stone though.

Before anyone gets started about longevity I have a pair of Comfort Clogs that are over 5 years old! Wear them gardening, putting about and camping. The bottoms are almost worn smooth but they are still truckin...
New lawsuit filed this week from here in Johnson City due to a lil girl got her crocs against the escalator at Parks Belk and it grabbed the crocs since they are made out of that type of 'sticky' rubber and it really did a number on her foot. I dont think the shoe is completely to blame but you know how people like to sue so big fancy lawyer came in from NY and filed against crocs. I doubt much will come of it. Other than that I haven't heard anything about them going out of business. I have noticed price increases but thesedays what else is new. wally world and otehr places sure seem to sell plenty of them. I have a pair I use for house shoes and think they are ok. They make great liteweight camp shoes as well.

how can a company that successfully convinces people that $30 Styrofoam shoes are cool go out of business?

Sounds like a company made a product that was too good. They don't wear out!
One of the small problems with a market driven economy.:p

that's been happening since they came out. there are several lawsuits.
Hoop Time 07-17-2009, 22:13 Went shopping for a pair this week to replace the sandals I usually wear in camp. Had a tough time finding much of a selection. Wanted the olive green "camp crocs" with the orange strap. Nowhere to be found. Went a couple of places, all with limited colors/sizes. Did manage to find navy blue in my size finally, avoiding some more hideous ones like camouflage. The next day saw them at a local distressed merchandise outlet (Ollies, for those in Central PA who might want some) for $10.
Lighter perhaps, but the largest men's size appears to be a 10. That's about five sizes to small for me.
