I am all for hiking in sneakers in the summer.

So I thought now would be a good time for a resole of the Merrils I use in the winter. Problem is, the guys who did such a good job last time no longer do that kind of work.

They did have a photo of what look like my boots on their web site, though. I hope I can get mine to look that way again.

Anyone know a mail order shop with a good reputation doing this kind of work?

When you're in the N. Conway area, visit Ken or Pete at Limmer (http://www.limmercustomboot.com/index.php?id=9). I don't know anyone in the northeast who has more experience resoling Norwegian welt boots, than they have.

Hey rickb...Thought this guy I came across in India might be able to help? He usually gets the same female customer that's adamant about paying w/Norwegian crown's and has to have her shoes done by half-past-noon. But he always gets the job done and takes U.S. cash. Hope this helps! :D http://www.indiaparenting.com/video/display.cgi?v1=885&v2=FUcfzuSKmoA

BTW...Due to his tight budget, his commercial is in an animated form! :)

I bought a pair of Scarpa Brio's many years ago that look just about like those in your picture. I wore them a couple of times, but never could get used to them. I think I paid 300+ for those boots - dang it! I'd love to give them to someone that would enjoy them - what's your size?

That's the guy who did mine last time. I was all set to send my boots to him again, only to learn he is no longer resoling hiking boots. I was bummed!

Rootball, thanks for the offer! Unfortunately, I am already in long-term relationship, and wouldn't think of leaving my dear Merrils for a younger better looking alternative.

I hope you can find a good cobbler. There is nothing as nice as a pair of broken in leather boots.

There's a place in Bishop, California called the Rubber Room that has a good reputation out this way (www.rubberroomresoles.com (http://www.rubberroomresoles.com)). A thread similar to this on SummitPost has been giving them good reviews.

Whatever you do, don't use Rocky Rountain Resole. I just got a 25-year-old pair of Rachlie boots back from them that needed serious repairs on the uppers, and they ruined them. I could have gotten a couple more years out of them for dayhiking the way they were, but now I can't use them at all. Fortunately, I have an identical pair that I found in a thrift store. However, I also have to go through all the trouble of getting the charge to my credit card reimbursed.
