For those that have not read or do not care...I am getting a few surgeries on both my wrists this summer, the first one on june 24th. This was my last hike pre-surgery...so we did not pound out any miles but rather hiked early mornings a few miles and lounged out at camp sites all afternoon. I call it car camping without the car. Thursday night we slept in a parking lot somewhere in Connecticut down the street from our trail head. Woke up early for a dark...foggy hike. Tipi Walter will recognize the salamanders we enjoyed the entire weekend.
Got to Brassie Brook Lean to and Lounged out for the afternoon. Marje says this is a don't outfit.....I say...HikerTrash Extrordinaire
Finally got sunny...although EVERYONE thought this weekend would be a wash...we found our time to enjoy it. Even the animals Started to come out.
Good to see you out and about before your surgery. Very nice photos as well. Tell Marge she looks like she was "doing" fine in her "don't" outfit.

Keeping on we stayed at Brassie Brook Shelter all afternoon, ate food, had drinks, and napped the afternoon away on Friday. Woke up at 430-5am on Saturday for an early hike up to Bear Mtn. for the Sun Rise. Although if you take the time to watch the picassa web album, and video accoutrement you will see me call it a sun SET!. Ooops.
Kept on after that......SUPER steep trail and slick with the rain down to Sages Ravine. Worth every step. Marje is for sure a Newbie hiker and she led the route half way down the trail...very proud of her. Even with a bum knee she trooped on and we spent another lazy morning at Sages Campsite.
Hiked all day into Sages Ravine and had some good times. Went swimming, that was exhilarating, and then we spent another night...pouring rain until we hiked out this morning. GREAT weekend and thanks for all the advice from the Connecticut WB'rs . Hope you enjoy the pics.

And in finishing with the report and the WB attachment restrictions (which I do understand the need for, all you bandwith monitors)....
Sages Ravine was SO cool... great waterfalls...and a really nice trail. Rained like a summabich on Saturday night...but that's ok...cause we packed out on Sunday morning in the fog. Just a really good experience and phenomenal to be there on a relaxing weekend. Would have done more miles if I was by myself...but Marje likes low miles soooo....I compromised and just found a really great spot in nature to enjoy.
Here's the last of the photos I will post on this thread....and the link to all of the photos and video I took....some great video voice commentary by me..:D

Glad you enjoyed your hike. Next time hit Race Brook Falls and Race Mtn - you will love it even more.

I think after my surgery I am going to do a good section of MA and CT with Marje and Walker Skinny Ranger. Much easier on me than the Whites and I can hopefully bag a few more peaks. Definitely WANTED to go and do more but this was more for the wife than me this weekend. Really could not beat the sun rise on Bear Mtn. Whats funny is we didn't even really make the sun rise. Those clouds were so thick I could not see the sun for the first 20 minutes we were up on the summit...the horizon was still glowing orange and I thought it was going to crest over at any moment...then it popped out of the clouds and washed us in warmth.
All day at Sages Ravine was warm, partly cloudy and then it rained buckets on Saturday night...all was good though...more peaks next time.

Wow, awesome pictures, thanks for the great write up! A small group of us are leaving this Saturday to knock out the CT section of the trail. I can't wait!! And your pictures just made me more eager!!
How was the temperatures this time of year? I'm hoping since I'm heading up north it'll be a little cooler up there. Maybe I'm crazy...or maybe it's just wishful thinking.

We had mixed sun and clouds...temps hung in the high 60's to mid 70's...night time might have dropped to 50...a little humid. I don't think the bugs were too bad....but Marje did...guess that is up to the person getting bit :D
Have a great time...great trails and really good upkeep of shelters, camp sites and the trails.
Glad you enjoyed your trip, A little further south from Brassie is the Riga shelter which has the best sunrise view in CT. since it faces east.
Since the wife and I enjoy nightly campfires we mostly camp in Mass. lately - it never gets old.
Looks like a nice, chill trip. Good stuff...

Will have to remember that....going back in a few weeks...I think to do a section of about 40 miles between CT and MA. If anyone is up to shuttling 3 smelly hikers back to their car lemme know... Don't know any details yet...have not planned it.
Homer, Glad to see you enjoyed CT!!
I'm planning on a (Southern) Mass trip hopefully in July. Still in planning mode...dont know how many nights I can get out of the house?? Keep in touch.

Just looked at the guide book and some maps... looks like I might go somewhere near CT Rt. 112 and US 7 to South Egremont MA. About 30 miles and...easy 5 or 6 mile days for the wife and brother in law...and plenty of other blue blazes for me to tackle in the afternoon. Plus....some good summits and cool stuff like Sages Ravine again.

Nighttime temps seem stuck in the 50s, and daytime temps projected to be in the seventies. Sunny Sunday; after that, who knows?
I'll be sobo and will be taking out at/near Egremont. If it was timed right you all could jump into my mini van and I could shuttle you back to CT.

Thanks...we'll see what happens...those things are hard to plan around each other...but if it works I'll absolutely accept.
Great photos!!!
Too bad CT is so short. It is a beautiful state where the AT runs through it.
And I enjoyed some level hiking along the river too!!
