My wife and I have been doing the Vernon, NJ--Arden, NY section in little pieces, and we have used three taxi companies for shuttles, all of whom I would highly recommend. They are Greenwood Lake Taxi (website http://www.greenwoodlaketaxi.com/), Vernon Taxi, and Monroe Taxi (the latter two can be found on the AT shuttle list.) We used Greenwood Lake for shuttles to NY 17A from the state line and West Mombasha Rd, Vernon Taxi to get from Vernon to the state line, and Monroe to get from West Mombasha Rd to NY 17. All three services arrived early, had plenty of room for our packs, were very polite and friendly (although Ron from Vernon Taxi is very politically incorrect!:D), and charged reasonable fees ($25-$35 depending on distance). The only problem I had was Greenwood Lake needed a little help understanding where we wanted to go the first time; I ended up having to fax them a map. Other than that, we were totally satisfied. I feel it is important to know about these services, particularly since this area is otherwise shuttler-poor.

I also used A1A Tri State Taxi on my last section hike, which ended at High Point SP Headquarters (in pouring rain), and was hoping to get into Port Jervis within an hour to grab a train home (the train after that was 8 hours later). The driver was friendly, picked me up within 10 minutes, and charged $10 for the ride into town, which I thought was a good deal given the distance.

I was given the # by the staff in the Park Hdqtrs. Office. I recommend A1A if you ever need a ride from High Point into Port Jervis! (It's quite a long walk, and hitching seemed fruitless.)
