My girlfriend and I are planning to hike the 160 mile Cohos Trail in NH and are looking for a ride out there. We'll also have a very well mannered dog with us. We're planning on leaving on 8/7 or 8/8 and returning on 8/23 or 8/24. We are in Brooklyn, NY. The southern terminus of the CT is near Notchland, NH, and the northern terminus is near Pittsburg, NH.
If you can help out or have any transportation ideas for us, please let me know.
Thanks so much,

Alas, I can not help you with a ride but want to give you some info for consideration.
I myself am doing this trail starting next week and have done a lot of research in preparation. The northern terminus is in Pittsburg at the Canadian Border. My understanding is there is little to no hope of hitching a ride south from there. you need to make arrangments in advance. Also, your cell phone (if you have one) will be useless most of the time as well as at the border and you you can't use the phones at customs.
I am assuming you have already looked over the cohos trail website. If not, it is www.cohostrail.org.
One thing you can do.. Bus up to Gorham. Then have a commerical outfitter shuttle you (see cohos trail website). That would be an expensive way out but better than nothing.

David, Thanks for the advice. I have checked out the Cohos site. Its pretty awesome & chock-full of info. The only thing that prevents us from taking the bus, is that we'll have a dog with us.
While doing my usual perusal of hiking websites I found this thread that you might be interested in. I don't know if there is anything there that could be of help but it might lead to some ideas. Good luck. Link (http://viewsfromthetop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30909).
I started the thread to which Askus links. One possibility if you have a car is to drive to the southern end of the Cohos and pay for a shuttle ride (the AMC shuttle might take you part way up). I got a price of a dollar a mile, but I didn't dig deep or try to bargain - so you might get something much better.
Have a great hike!
