The current thu hiker registry that we have here on WhiteBlaze has become obsolete. What I mean by obsolete is that when we put it up over five or more years ago it was the only database I could find that people could publish their 2,000 miler completion status in. The database has a lot of flaws and drawbacks. I will not get into all those details but will say that we have a new system we just implemented that should fix all these previous problems.

With the new database there is the issue of having to reregister all over again. We will not remove the old database for a long time but we will eventually turn it off so that it cannot be used.. We will leave it up there for a few years in hopes that everyone will start transferring there completion status over to the new database.

If you have registered on the old database, we ask that you please register on the new one also.

I just completed the form and (successfully) submitted it. But I was confused by the "Date" field so I entered ??. How does it differ from the Start and Finish?

Yes, I guess the year can be a little confusing. I have gone back and edited the titles of each field hoping that it will explain it better. You can go back and edit your entry if you want to change it.

How about adding a field for direction ? NOBO, SOBO, FLIP FLOP etc.

You can either edit or deleted these entries one at a time. All you need to do it find your listing and click on your TRAIL NAME.

Your question - or at least your examples - assume that the database is for thruhikes or at least those who hike according to a systematic and contiguous manner, unless by "etc." you mean other ways of covering the entire trail. Remember the database is "2,000 milers," not "thruhikers."

In my case, a field labelled "Direction" is meaningless. I hiked some north, some south, some one-day hikes, some weekend hikes, and a few hikes over 100 miles. In addition, my hiking was geographically very scattered and random.

Cookerhiker does have a valid point but I can also see where direction would be nice to know. I will look into it but now that it is started I am not sure how easy it will be.

Under Town and State do you want current location or area of residence at completion of hike?

You can put either. You can always go back in and change it later.
