View Full Version : duct tape for a pot cozy?
cwayman1 06-30-2009, 22:03 yo!
i've seen ppl use duct tape to help construct a pot cozy using the blue CCF. has anyone used it for making a cozy with reflectix? ya know tha stuff, the windshield visor material?! I just can't bring myself to pay fifteen bucks for that aluminum tape!
thanks!
take-a-knee 06-30-2009, 22:15 I've made several reflectix cozies with tyvek tape, they are holding up well. I suspect that Gorilla brand duct tape will work well. I've seen builders tape foilback sheathing board seams with it. regular duct tape will peel away.
I've used regular duct tape to make several pot cozies with reflectix. It worked fine for me.
Two Tents 07-01-2009, 07:14 I made a cozy from windsheild stuff and sewed it with da wifeys' sewing machine. Pretty nice if I do say so!
daddytwosticks 07-01-2009, 07:29 Buy a windshield shade made of Reflectix...cheaper than buying the big roll from the hardware stores! Get yourself some "chrome" duct tape from Wal-Mart (it is the very silvery-shiny version of standard duct tape). Have at it...mine looks great and works just like the big boys. The duct tape has held up fine. Good luck! :)
I made one from a dollar store windshield reflector and duct tape. I held up well and I am still using it.
SARdaddy 07-01-2009, 11:47 Any pics of said cozy(s)?? I think I need to make one!
I made a puch cozy with aluminum tape and the tape ended up cracking. Now it has duct tape on it. My cozy is from the windshield screen too. I bought mine for $6 at walmart. It is the same aluminum foil covered bubble wrap that pot cozies are made from.

Same here. No issues. Works great.

Johnny Swank 07-01-2009, 16:48 Duct tape's fine for this. Good call on the windshield material, but blue foam works too.

flemdawg1 07-01-2009, 17:19 That looks like it might make a nice pillow. Ever sleep / it?
hopefulhiker 07-01-2009, 21:01 you can make one with duct tape and bubble wrap....
Toolshed 07-01-2009, 21:19 made many with duct tape and reflectix. FYI You can get cheap alum tape at Walmart for about $4 a roll. Looks much better than duct tape.
SARdaddy 07-01-2009, 21:52 nice pics and great ideas. thanks

Keep in mind what we just learned about "Dead Air Space" in your Double Walled Pot thread.
A 3/4" dead air space between a brown paper bag(single wall) and your pot makes for a very effective pot cozy. If I can find the thread with my testing results I'll post it.
Greenhouses use the principal in maintaing heat in the winter months for growing plants.
Use Tyvek instead of brown paper for strength and weather resistance.
Use a preformed plastic "Gift" bag available at K-Mart in the Greeting Card section. One that fits your pot diameter.
Make something that folds flat.
If you want lightweight, think outside the box.:banana
El Toro '94 07-14-2009, 16:55 Why not use tabs of velcro instead of tape?

Couple of those free drink cozies and regular duct tape. Cut and tape.
Someone said they used a faucet insulator.
Whatever fits and works.
