The Horse-Shoe Trail (HST) is a 140-mile, public trail for foot travelers and equestrians in southeastern Pennsylvania. It begins at Valley Forge National Historical Park and ends at its junction with Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

According to an article in Myerstown Area MERCHANDISER on July 1, Horse-Shoe Trail Club, the 533-member, volunteer-based, not-for-profit organization has recently reorganized as a conservancy and will now be known as Horse-Shoe Trail Conservancy.

More information may be obtained at its website which does not yet reflect the name change.

This is excellent news! It's a good thing that the HST is now going to be protected by what will hopefully be a more powerful organization that can do something about the encroachments the trail has suffered in the last few years. While there has been some fine work getting it off roads (and much thanks to the volunteers and landowners who've been doing this) it's still a highly threatened trail. I posted a Google Earth track for it a while back in this forum, just trying to help bring some additional awareness. If the new Conservancy can advance the work, I say:

Hip, hip hooray!:banana

Thanks for the information Emerald. I used to do a lot of geocaching near the HST. Good to know people care.
