Can anyone recommend a 3 day 2 night loop (25 - 30 miles) in SNP? In lieu of that can someone tell me if anyone offers a shuttle service in and around the park?

Then hike south on the AT to elkswallow. If you have a map of the northern section you can trace it out, sorry I can't remember all the names. plenty of water out there. last weekend, I hiked the AT from gravel springs to pass mountain and then hiked back on the skyline drive. that was a nice hike, especially the skyline drive very early in the morning. juma Furlough 07-06-2009, 11:57 I can second JUMA's recommendation. In addition the link below, will show you some other options and opportunities to piece differnt hikes together for longer distances. www.midatlantichikes.com (http://www.midatlantichikes.com) Blissful 07-07-2009, 18:11 PM Skyline for shuttle options in Shenandoah. Hard to do a loop per say with the AT, but you can certainly do something like the Big Run wilderness area for a few days and make a loop out of it using the AT. If you want strictly AT, you can do the central section - Swift Run Gap to Thorton Gap. Park your car and get shuttled to where you need to get on to make the 30 miles. It's especially nice in early Spring when you have to leap and sometimes wade over Jeremy's Run. johnnybgood 07-08-2009, 16:41 starting at elkwallow wayside, head south on the AT to the neighbor mountain trail. take it to jeremy run and pick up knob mountain trail north. take it north to the campground (can't remember the name). walk the skyline drive north to gravel springs and head north on AT. turn east at the parking lot that is near the mt. marshall trail and take it back south to gravel springs hut. So where were your 1st and 2nd nights spent /Jeremys Run and Knob Mountain ? Is this hike doable in 2 days/ 1 night ? juma 07-10-2009, 11:59 I'd either haul some water from jeremy's run up knob mountain and pick a spot on the knob mountain ridge - its pretty open - or go on to matthews arm campground and stay there. then the next day stay at/near gravel springs hut after making the loop north and back. then 6 miles back to elkwallow and breakfast at the wayside. there are a lot flat nice spots with water near on the mt. marshall trail too. jumawalk juma 07-13-2009, 09:01 another thought is to jump over west one mountain range and do a thru hike of the massanutten trail or break it into 2 three day hikes. juma Peaks 07-13-2009, 16:14 Several good (excellent) loop options in SNP. Get the PATC book on loop hikes in SNP. OR just look at at map. |
